As part of the University鈥檚 broader effort to improve financial sustainability through non-salary cost savings, 小蓝视频 Campus Environment has made substantial progress in driving savings across campus operations, as part of the University鈥檚 Expenditure Taskforce.
鈥淥ur priority is to maintain the quality of services our community expects by focusing on getting more value from procurement activities, strengthening our contract management processes, and optimising the resources we already have on campus,鈥 said Jeremy Matthew, 小蓝视频 Chief Campus Environment Officer.
Exiting of leases and space consolidation
The University is progressively exiting several commercial leases and consolidating operations back onto campus. This is expected to generate $2.4 million in annual savings from 2026 onwards, with the first lease exits already underway.
In support of this transition, temporary dwellings Graduate Student Centre (Building 13A) and K Block (Building 3K) are being demolished this year to enable more efficient use of existing campus infrastructure. Further removal of aged infrastructure is planned in future years.
Building in-house capability and reducing external spend
The Campus Environment team is also enhancing in-house capability by assuming direct responsibility for areas previously managed externally.
Through smarter resourcing, robust procurement activities, and internal management of contracts, the University is on track to save $4 million in non-ongoing expenses, including:
$1.5 million to move management of Kambri鈥檚 maintenance to the University鈥檚 Campus Environment Division
$1 million in maintenance operations
$1 million in cleaning services
$500,000 in security services.

continued work on space consolidation
in-house management of Kambri鈥檚 facilities
early exit of the Barry Drive lease
exit of Marcus Clarke lease by March 2026.
